How To Make Weed Chocolate: 5 Steps

1. Choose an Infusion Method and Gather Ingredients

The first step of how to make weed chocolate is to decide on an infusion method. You can use:

You’ll also need:

  • 100 g dark chocolate 
  • Saucepan and glass bowl
  • Candy mold

2. Decarb the Cannabis

If you’re making weed chocolate using straight flower instead of butter or a concentrate, you must decarboxylate the weed. “Decarboxylation” is a chemical reaction that converts THCA — the cannabinoid in cannabis plants that doesn’t get you high — into THC, the chemical that does. Most people call it “decarbing” for short. 

Cannabis needs to be heated to between 200o F and 245o F to decarb, so preheat your oven to about 220o F. Then, spread your cannabis out on a baking sheet and bake it for 20 to 30 minutes.

3. Melt the Chocolate

The best way to do this is by steaming it — this helps keep the chocolate from burning. You can do this using a saucepan and glass bowl. Here’s how:

  • Put the glass bowl on top of the saucepan filled with water, resting the bowl on the rim of the pan so it doesn’t touch the water. 
  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Melt the chocolate in the bowl, stirring occasionally.

4. Add the Cannabis 

Once the chocolate is fully melted, it’s time to add the cannabis. If you’re using butter or concentrates, simply stir them into the chocolate. If you’re using flower, break the buds down into tiny pieces first:

  • Use a grinder: Grinding helps the cannabinoids fuse with the terpenes, the chemical compounds that give cannabis its distinctive smell and taste, resulting in chocolate with a more robust weed flavor. 
  • Crumble by hand: Crumbling is better for preserving the trichomes—the hairlike crystals found on cannabis. Trichomes produce THC, so preserving them usually increases the potency of the cannabis chocolate. 

Whichever method you choose, be sure to mix the weed into the chocolate thoroughly.

5. Pour the Chocolate

While the chocolate is still melted, pour it into your candy mold, filling each compartment to the top. You can also use an ice cube tray if you don’t have a chocolate mold handy. Then, tap the mold on the countertop a few times to release any air bubbles. 

Finally, put the chocolate in the refrigerator until it hardens — around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the depth of the mold. Then transfer them to an air-tight container and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to eat them.
